Auction of railway land at Pudding Norton

Bridge over River WensumThe widely reported auction of this section of trackbed took place on February 17th and it was sold for a price of £12,000 - well in excess of the guide price (£3,000 to £5,000) and beyond the amount we were able to raise for the purchase.
As agreed with the Mid Norfolk Railway we did bid for this land. The sale had however attracted a lot of publicity and there were several other parties competing in the auction.
We would like to express our thanks to supporters who pledged funds for this potential puchase.

This turn of events, although disappointing, does not mean that the long term aim of restoring rail links to Fakenham has disappeared. This piece of land, along with the other stretches of the line remains subject to planning restrictions that will prevent its use for anything other than for transport purposes. It is also true to say that there are other potential routes into Fakenham and all options remain open.
