SHERINGHAM - Replacing the missing link
1968 saw the closure of Sheringham's original station in favour of a new unmanned halt east of the old level crossing on Station Road. This was part of the wider downgrading of East Anglian branch lines to the level of a 'basic' railway. The new facility was constructed from wooden sleepers with ballast infill and although improved slightly since then it does not meet current operational safety requirements or accessibility standards
The reinstatement of this missing link is the first target of the project, opening possibilities which include:
- A new platform for One Anglia trains conforming to today's safety standards, accommodating longer trains and with improved interchange for bus/car/taxi passengers and easyinterchange with the NNR. Eventual ability to run trains beyond Sheringham.
- For the NNR a direct link with Network Rail permitting stock movements, occasional specials and eventual extension of services to Cromer.
