Guarding the infrastructure

East Runton viaductsSome disused infrastructure, like the viaduct nearest the camera at East Runton, remains intact and in good condition. In other places, however, the destruction of the original rail routes is much more evident.

Bridges may have disappeared altogether whilst others retain their brickwork but are missing decking. Others remain intact but in apparent isolation from any trace of the original trackbed.

Things are not always as they appear at first sight however. What may look like a hopeless obstruction to the reinstated railway can be overcome, whether by rebuilding or diversion. Drivers along the Holt bypass might be forgiven for thinking that the railway that once occupied the route is lost forever. But in fact when the road was designed adequate space was left for the eventual return of a rail line alongside the road.

We maintain a watching brief on all threats that might pose a threat to the eventual realisation of our plans. We are always grateful to have our attention drawn to such instances.
