Proposals for a car park at Thornage Road in Holt:
Many locals will be aware of the proposed car and coach park for Holt which will be situated between the Thornage Road and the railway alignment to the west of the town. Planning permission has been granted for a pedestrian access to Valley Road and this will have to cross the trackbed which is currently owned by Norfolk County Council.

We are in touch with NCC to ensure that this access takes into account the future rebuilding of the railway. Plans showing the various options to take the access route over the railway have been drawn up by a professional railway engineer who oversaw the reconnection of the North Norfolk Railway to Network Rail at Sheringham, and have been submitted to the Council. We were at one time promised compensation of £43,000 towards the cost of the footbridge but that is now all subject to renegotiation.
We believe that the railway and the car park can work to mutual advantage with benefits not only to Holt but to other North Norfolk towns. It will be perfectly possible for the final Holt station to be immediately adjacent to the car park, providing a park and ride service to Sheringham and beyond. |
Our case here has been robustly supported by the Norfolk Rail Policy Group to whom we are very grateful.
